Modes
Official play is four catalog modes plus a co-op raid occupancy. Community servers are separate.
| Id | Name | Join | Unlock | Typical port |
|---|---|---|---|---|
easy | Breezeway | Open (guest name OK) | Level 1 | 3001 |
medium | Midway | Open (guest name OK) | Level 1 | 3004 |
hard | Terminal | Open, account | Level 4 | 3002 |
ranked | Arena [BETA] | Ranked token | Level 6 | 3003 |
raid | Crossroads | Party reservation | Feature-flagged | 3005 |
Unlock levels come from lifetime XP prestige (shared/modeUnlocks.ts). Easy and Medium stay free-to-play for guests.
Open (Breezeway / Midway / Terminal)
Drop In from Find. Official open joins go through the authority: it picks a live runtime, reserves seats, and issues a short-lived assignment token. The runtime admits that token and does not take a naked guest join when OPEN_ASSIGNMENT_REQUIRED is on.
- Up to 8 humans per process. Bots fill empty seats on official servers.
- Mid-match join is allowed when seats are free.
- Parties stay on one runtime and one team. They are never split by rebalance.
- If official servers are full, you wait. The platform can start another process on the same host when capacity allows.
Open parties
From the same Drop In modal (not a separate button):
- Account + unique username required to invite or accept. Guests still drop in solo.
- Invite by username. Default party max is 4 (
OPEN_PARTY_MAX_SIZE). - Accept opens Find and the matching mode's Drop In modal.
- Ready means that exact modal is open and heartbeating.
- Pending invites block the final drop. The leader can revoke them.
- Ranked and community joins keep their own flows.
Friends, an inbox, and a notification center live on the main menu when those flags are on.
Ranked (Arena)
One competitive lane at hard difficulty.
- Clerk session → authority join token. The runtime checks an Ed25519 token; it does not see the Clerk secret.
- Starts in pre-match: doors locked, unlimited ammo, unscored, bots do not count.
- Live match needs ≥ 4 humans, even human teams, and unanimous ready.
- First human to leave a live ranked match voids it. Only the leaver loses Skill and XP. Everyone else may leave free.
- When the last human leaves, the instance hard-resets to a clean pre-match.
- Ranked is joinable only in pre-match with free seats (no mid-live drop-in).
- Ranked parties are the older Party · Ranked lobby (invite by username, all-or-nothing join of the single ranked instance).
See Ranking.
Raid (Crossroads)
Co-op, 2–4 players, map Crossroads. Score 10 door captures within 5 minutes. A death eliminates you (no respawn). Win pays 15 XP and 15 coins. The roster waits up to 30s for reserved players, then starts with whoever is present.
Community / custom
Download the server, run it, and share IP:port — or register through the community proxy so friends join via proxy.games… without port-forwarding. Community games use guest names, do not write official progression, and use the dumb bot brain. See Hosting.
Campaign (offline)
Single-player story on the client. Acts A New Beginning and The Way It Is, starting at La Porte Line. Account progress is saved when signed in; guests can still play locally. This is not an official runtime.
